HIP (HONOURING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES) COMMITTEE REPORT I attended a Zoom meeting on April 6 with the following items discussed: - Under the leadership of Strini Reddy and working with “Share the Magic” and Indigo books, over 9000 books were delivered to the libraries/schools in Shammatawa, Lac Brochet, Wasagaming, to name a few Northern communities.
- Jim Bear shared the news that a series of stamps will be issued next month honouring Sergeant Tommy Prince. He was able to show us the final proofs of the stamps and they will be outstanding! There will be a launch of the stamps in Manitoba but he was not at liberty to say where. Naturally the government wanted to have the launch in Ottawa, but thanks to Jim and his volunteers it will be held in Manitoba.
- I shared the news of the last shipment of clothes and school supplies went up to The Pas Opaskwayak First Nations and that our Peace Pole was on order and two of the languages on it are Cree and Ojibway.
