Rotary Club of Selkirk Thanks Community for Donating Clothes and Hockey Gear

A huge Rotary thank you to all those who helped with the clothing drive and hockey equipment as well as skates:

Fraser, David Thorne. Glen, Ruth, Hobie for picking up all the bags and boxes at 9 schools!!

Sharon, Ashley, Al, Ron & Corrie, Dave T, Glen, Shauna, Fraser, for packing as well as Friends of Rotary Pam Seekings and Brenda Johannson .

To Wendy for arranging for the boxes to be used for packing and the last minute call when we ran out of boxes.

The great post that the School Division put on Facebook added greatly to the number of items received.

I hope everyone has seen David’s post on Facebook. It was a lot of hard work but a great team builder!! And lots of laughs!

Boxes are being delivered to Winnipeg by the Maintenance Department of the Lord Selkirk School Division, and then off to the North!!

The schools who had clothing, skates and hockey gear for us were Happy Thought, East Selkirk Middle School, High School, School Board Office, Centennial, Robert Smith, Daerwood, W, S, Patterson, Selkirk Junior High and the churches were Good Shepherd, Notre Dame Roman Catholic, and Knox Presbyterian.

Greetings to all Rotarians and guests including honorary member Ashley Martyniw and guest speaker Mitch Tkatchuk, followed by supper.

Introduction of our guest speaker, Mitch Tkatchuk, of the Selkirk RCMP detachment. Mitch’s presentation included his own background as an RCMP officer and a general overview of the Selkirk and district that their detachment services. He spoke about the top priorities the detachment is focusing on. The presentation was followed by many questions.

Announcement of Rotary members and spouses birthdays and anniversary dates of members for the months of November and December.

Viva La Vino / Wine & Roses - There was a discussion about whether to have an in-person event in February or another raffle. After input from every member, it was overwhelmingly decided to do a raffle. Suggestions included not just wine/alcohol as a prize, but to include other types of prizes: gift cards for groceries, gas, etc.

International HIP Program – Selkirk is eligible to nominate one local student to participate in the 2024 event located in BC at no cost to the club. It was unanimously voted to select a student for this event.
