Mayor Debbie Fiebelkorn, our guest speaker on September 13, shared the five-year strategic plan, sharing the vision, values, and goals for the municipality. The major areas of focus were shared, which included the following: Water Treatment Plant Enhanced Sewer Service Project Trails from Birds Hill to Grand Marais Recreation South St. Clements Activity Centre Roads and Drainage
This council and administrative staff have continued to work hard planning for “Work, Live and Play” in St. Clements. Questions were asked regarding how Rotary could partner and help give back. - Guest Speaker: Dr. David Matear, CEO of Interlake Eastern Regional Health Authority (IERHA), was our guest speaker on September 27.
David started in the CEO position for the IERHA this past February. David spoke to Rotary of his background starting in Scotland and ending up here in Selkirk, Manitoba. With more than 30 years of experience in health care, David shared some experiences along the way illustrating his passion for collaborative, strategic and operational leadership in health care which involves community. Transformation and change management are passions of David’s and that’s why he was attracted to in Manitoba. PAUL HARRIS FELLOW AWARDED TO DIANE THOMAS | Tonight the Rotary Club of Selkirk recognized Diane Thomas from the Selkirk Golf and Country Club upon receiving a prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award! Many thanks to Diane for all of her hard work and support in making Selkirk a better place over the course of many years. Truly a special woman! | | 511 LBS OF FOOD......is what the Rotary Club of Selkirk's garden produced this year! On Sunday, members of the Rotary club got together to clean up the last of the garden. Another 227lbs of vegetables was harvested by the group. We even got a visit from special guest star Matt Bialek of Red Bomb Fireworks who not only provided the garden plot for us, but ensured the water was topped up throughout the year! Thanks Matt!!! Today, a few of our Rotarians visited Cathy Moore at the Selkirk Food Bank and Beverly Terhorst at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen to deliver the veggies. What a wonderful time to be a Rotarian! |
THANK YOU! To our garden volunteers and Red Bomb Fireworks! Bouquets to all those involved on a regular basis with the planting, watering, harvesting, and delivering the vegetable garden this past summer. Thanks to Jean, Doug & Marilyn, Sharon, David, Ron T., Norm & Carolyn, and Trish. The garden and those tending it, provided 511 pounds of food for Selkirk Food Bank and the Daily Soup Kitchen on behalf of Rotary. Thanks to Red Bomb for providing the garden plot and the water! Our club has received three cheques from the Benevity Fund (related to David Thorne and through his work).
Congratulations to Shauna Curtin on becoming Chair and David Thorne on becoming Vice Chair of the Selkirk and District Community Foundation. Survival Gardens Donation. Proud of our club contributing to the Survival Gardens, but also to individual Rotarians for contributing a total of $1450.
APPEALS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Rhonda has Rotarian shirts available for anyone interested, particularly new members. NOW (Nutrition On Weekends) program started again Friday, October 1. Requests are looking to be higher this year. Packing and transporters volunteers needed weekly. School supplies are being collected to go to Easterville. Please give your donations or cash to Jean. Winter clothing, toques, scarves, bedding are needed and will be collected for Easterville. First drop off will take place at Jean’s house Oct. 24-Nov. 1. Our club continues to need a Vocational Director. Any questions or if interested, contact President David. Please RSVP for dinner meetings. We will continue to ask Rotarians to inform Jean by Wednesday before a meeting to help determine numbers in person for meals. Parade Float: A new storage location has been found in Selkirk to to store the parade float that Gimli and Selkirk club share. Next big project? Please share your thoughts or ideas with David.
