We have now completed two months (November & December) of the NOW (Nutrition on the Weekend) program.
Currently serving four schools
We are currently serving 4 schools (Robert Smith, Ruth Hooker, Happy Thought and Centennial) with an average of 56 bags of nutritious snacks per week. We have placed 7 items in each bag (fruit, hot rods, cookies, granola bar, cheese crackers, carrot sticks ). Ruth’s figures estimate it is at a cost of approximately $132.00 per week. We are applying for several grants to help sustain the program. According to school principals, the program has been well received by the parent/guardian and school staff.
Looking for more help
Four volunteers pack the bags on Friday mornings(if there is no school on Friday, we pack and deliver on Thursday) ...takes 1 hour including delivery...We are looking for more help so the same 4 don’t have to do it every week. One of our regular volunteers will be going away for two months so we could use a replacement for her.
