March 9 Field Trip and Meeting

President Sharon Moolchan and Michele Polinuk presenting a cheque to assist with a purchase of the new mascot

It is always enjoyable and interesting to go on a field trip. March 9 was no exception as a good representation of our club members met at the Selkirk Fire Station to have a tour of the new facilities. There were enough firemen present to have a guide for about every 4 club members.

The firemen were enthusiastic and knowledgeable and very appreciative of all of the support they have from community organizations and the City of Selkirk.

We were introduced to all of the firetrucks and their different capabilities and uses. We learned that they can deploy very quickly due to their gearing up at the fire rather than in the firehall.

The new facility is much larger than it looks from the outside and is much more functional than their old building. There are areas for all of the trucks and the firemen’s gear as well as tools required to do the job. They also have a Kodiak for water rescues along with water suits.

Overall it was a tremendous tour and it ended with picture taking and the presentation of a cheque to assist them in purchasing a new Sparky mascot suit that is important to their school education program.

After the trip we went to the Selkirk Golf Course for supper and an opportunity to discuss our next club project. Members discussed their ideas in small groups. The ideas were recorded and are being investigated the Executive.
