Our club received a request from Rotarians Brenda and David Newman who have secured $1500 USD from a Donor Advised Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, and offered to match 3 Rotary clubs at $500 USD each for this global grant.
The Rotary Club of Winnipeg-Downtown has already committed $500USD, and the Rotary Club of Winnipeg-Charleswood is voting on that soon.
What the Newman's are proposing is that Selkirk Club's total commitment would be $500 USD (which will be added to the $500 donor advised fund from The Winnipeg Foundation).
- that commitment produces a $2,000 total once the DDF is added
- and $3,500 once the TRF match is added
The grant is to provide capacity building skills and resources to women's rights advocates in Nepal. The training in the grant is based on a proven model that has been used to change over 250 laws in 50 countries. Violence against women is the pandemic within the Covid19 pandemic - so the work is very timely to the incredible increase in domestic violence during the isolation.
Our Club’s Board approved participation in this Global Project and reported this expenditure to the members during our Zoom meeting.
