Changeover Rotary Meeting

June 22, 2020

The club held its first face to face meeting on June 22 at the Selkirk Golf Club. The theme was Hawaiian due to the Hawaiian RI convention that was changed to an online Convention . The Golf Club dining room was set up according to the Covid Virus regulations and Diane and her staff made us feel safe and comfortable. It was wonderful to see the members present.

The meeting began by acknowledging the passing of, Keith Axford, who had belonged to the Selkirk Rotary Club as well as the Fort Garry Rotary Club.

President Sharon then commented on how Kevin Chief looks at the Treaty 1 acknowledgment.

As being about belonging, a concept that grounds Rotary, and as “Living in Treaty” , meaning we live together without racial prejudice and honour people who believe in belonging. This idea is very applicable to our world today. President Sharon then read the acknowledgment followed by a Rotary prayer.

After dinner President Sharon reported the ways that the club has tried to stay active and visible during the pandemic. We then passed a motion to donate $1500.00 to the Red River Clean Up project led by Robert Belanger.

Rotarian Lee handled the 50-50 draw and returning Sargent at Arms, Rotarian Rhonda, led a quiz game. Welcome back Rhonda. We missed your energy.
