Greetings:
I hope everyone has weathered the last 30+ days of isolation and perhaps found some benefits to the slower pace of our lives during this time. I also hope that all of our families and friends have survived this pandemic in good health.
It is very hard to believe that our last face to face meeting was on March 9 when we had an enjoyable and informative tour of the new Selkirk Fire Station and a supper together. Since then the Board has met once on Zoom. (Minutes of that April 6 meeting have been included in this bulletin.) The following motion was emailed to all of the members and was fully supported by all who responded.
MOTION: by Elaine Elliott and seconded by Jean Oliver, THAT THE ROTARY CLUB OF SELKIRK DONATE $2500.00 TO THE SELKIRK FOOD BANK. PASSED
Thank you to all of the members for replying and voting to approve this action.
We also received a $500.00 COVID-19 grant from the district which increased our Food Bank donation to $3000.00.
During isolation many events and programs have been cancelled or the format has been changed.
The weekend District Conference, which was to be held in Kenora from May 21 to 24 has been changed to an online format.
Youth programs have been cancelled. (Ryla, the International Canoe Camp in Sioux Lookout, Long and Short Term Exchange Programs, Adventures in Human Rights, MUNA , Adventures in Technology and the Careers Symposium)
Our Rotary Club Lobsterfest was also cancelled for this year.
Rotarian Ruth has been hard at work on our financial statements and will be sending them out before our April 27, 2020 online Zoom meeting.
GREAT NEWS:
Rotarian Jean applied for a Community Foundation Grant for the NOW program and we received notification this week that we will be receiving a $10 000.00. This will jumpstart the NOW project as soon as classes resume in the school division.
Lastly, the Board members used Zoom for their April 16 meeting and decided to try using Zoom for a club meeting on Monday, April 27. The meeting will run from 6:00 until 7:00.
Please read the information Hobie has written about Zoom and feel free to contact him with your questions or concerns.
Look at this as an online get together, informal experiment where we can catch up, try and iron out problems and get everyone who is participating online. Think of it as a Fireside or Happy Hour. We do not know when the restrictions will change concerning the size of gatherings. Therefore, it is possible that we will need to be able to meet online in order to continue conducting Rotary business.
I think we are all anxious to move on to a new reality and I hope that what we have experienced will inform us about what is really important in our lives and re-energize our club’s commitment to making a difference.
