NUTRITION ON THE WEEKEND (NOW) will be starting up soon
We need more Rotarians to help with the program.
It involves about one hour each week.
Right now, we have 3 Rotarians who help on a regular basis and the rest are family and friends. We are working in teams, Sharon Moolchan doing one Friday and Jean Oliver doing the other. Or, if you can help with the delivery that would be great. Hobie comes at 10:30 and delivers to several of the schools as do Ron & Corrie Corrigal.
Cocktails and fellowship at 5:30, supper at 6:00. Followed by meeting
Bring your own plates and cutlery, lawn chair and any alcoholic beverage should you want. Water and Pop will be provided.
President Dave is donating a 12 lb. pork roast and Ron Thiede is smoking it for the dinner!. Hats off gentlemen!!
Please email Jean of your attendance by Saturday, September 10.
We need salads, vegetarian dishes, and desserts and any other meat dish should you not like pork. This is short notice. I appreciate your understanding. -Hobie

The Upcoming Rotary Book Sale Sept.22-Oct.1/22
Plans are well underway and a big "Thank You" to all Rotarians that have signed up to help. We have several community members volunteering but we still need Rotarians for cash and supervisory roles particularly in the 3-5pm time slots and on Saturdays. Can you spare a couple of hours?
The Ag Building may be cool in the mornings in late September and it has been suggested that 3 -200 amp industrial heaters will take the chill off. We have two, does any Rotarian have another we can borrow ?
If you can help out with any of the above please call Ruth at (204)482-6122 or Sharon at (204) 482-3041.
New Park and Peace Pole, plus $20,000 donated to St. Clements
On September 6, 2022, Selkirk Rotary was part of the ribbon cutting ceremony for a new park.
We also unveiled a Peace Pole we donated that states "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in 12 languages.
Lastly, we made a donation of $20,000 to the RM of St. Clements to plant mature Manitoba Maple trees.
Rotary’s Four Roles in Promoting Peace
Rotary and its members are:
Practitioners: Our work fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, improving the health of mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies directly builds the optimal conditions for peaceful societies.
Educators: Our Rotary Peace Centers have trained over 1,300 peace fellows to become effective catalysts for peace through careers in government, education, and international organizations.
Mediators: Our members have negotiated humanitarian ceasefires in areas of conflict to allow polio vaccinators to reach children who are at risk.
Advocates: Our members have an integral role as respected, impartial participants during peace processes and in post-conflict reconstruction. We focus on creating communities and convening groups that are connected, inclusive, and resilient.
Call to Order: 6:00 p.m. by President David Thorne
Welcome to all Rotarians at the Marine Museum of Manitoba, Introduction of Guests
Program: Rotary Club of Gimli Joint Meeting, Shay Nordal of Marine Museum, and Mary-Jane Feeke Rotary President of Gilbraltar.
Nine members and honorary members joined us from the Rotary Club of Gimli.
Shay Nordal provided an update on the Museum. The attendance at the museum this year is exceeding 2019 numbers, despite the street construction. Exhibits have been upgraded. This year is the museum’s 50th anniversary and there are 50/50 tickets available online. David Thorne presented a donation to the museum on behalf of Rotary.
Mary-Jane Feeke is a former Rotary Club of Selkirk Exchange Student who went to South Africa 25 years ago. She brought her Rotary jacket adorned with many pins and “memories” captured during her time. Mary-Jane is now president of the Rotary Club of Gilbraltar, and she presented banners to the presidents of the Gimli and Selkirk clubs.
Also had one final goodbye to Doug and Marilyn Anderson as they “move on” to live closer to family. Both have served Rotary and events/projects diligently.
Director’s Reports:
Lesli shared that the Ukrainian bench and hand carving draws raised $8660.
Invoices will be sent to all Rotarians for their dues in the next few weeks. $200 per person.
David reported that at the September 12th meeting, membership fees and the structure will be reviewed by club members.
Royal Aviation Museum on August 22. By bus, it's $30 per person. Admission included. Those going on their own pay $22 admission and parking. Jean needs your confirmation by August 16th. The bus pickup and drop off will be in the parking lot behind the LC.
Trish shared that one student attended the Junior RYLA this summer and will present in the fall. The senior student was unable to attend.
The Book Sale requires Rotarian volunteers. We will have community volunteers, but we need to have at least one Rotarian during each shift. Trish Goosen sent an email out August 8 with an online form. Ruth has a hard copy form so you can contact Ruth to get your name on the volunteer list. The shifts are 3 hours in length.
Birthdays, Anniversaries and join dates were shared by our Sergeant-at-Arms as well as some riddles to solve.
Next meeting: August 22nd. Need to commit for this field trip to the Partners are invited. Please let Jean know by August 16th if you are attending.
