    Rotary Club of Selkirk – Meeting Minutes July 12, 2021
     
     
    Call to Order: 6:02 p.m. by President David Thorne
    Acknowledgement of Treaty Land Territory by Past President Jean Oliver
     
    Program: Strini Reddy – HIP Committee of Winnipeg and member of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg. Strini’s information was shared in the Spoke for this meeting.
     
    Attendance: 55%

    Program: HIP – Honouring Indigenous Peoples Committee

    Our District has a HIP Committee which encourages clubs to engage and act on the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
     
    • The work is more important now more than ever in building understanding and respectful relationships.
    • We can build a better tomorrow for everyone. It is a shared future.
    • We can be the voice of our community.
    • Learning – build understanding – create awareness
    • Winnipeg group has contributed to northern communities with many donations of various types – books, skates, groceries, clothing, learning packages.
     
    As a club we will discuss opportunities and possibilities in the future with our planning.
     
     
     
    Directors Reports
     
    Secretary’s Report:
    • Michele indicated that we now have 29 Active members
    • No correspondence in the mail
    • Thanks to Treasurer Lesli for arranging the Sunova paperwork for the change in President and Secretary.
     
    Treasurer’s Report:
    • Lesli shared that the 2020/2021 Books were provided for Honorary Rotarian Bill Bodman to review.
    • A proposed budget will be drafted.
    • New member kits were ordered and have arrived. They will be given to the secretary to distribute.
    • Dues are due! Dues are due! Dues are due! Do that now!
    • Encourage all Rotarians to go online and change the magazine Rotarian to electronic format – saves club (and you) money.
     
    Directors:
     
    International Service – Elaine has “met” with Shauna and shared information regarding the area as well as correspondence from the Ripple Effect Committee.
     
    Youth Service – Trish indicated the ages of RYLA have been extended to 25, but due to the virtual format, we don’t have any participants this summer. We did have MUNA participants.
     
    President Elect & Sergeant at Arms:
     
    Rhonda highlighted the “Friends in Need” article from the July Rotarian Magazine.
    • General message is to help where the problems are!
     
    The group played Jeopardy for Seniors, with President David getting 10/10 questions right – and he’s not even a Senior!!
     
    • Fines were given out to various members. To protect the identity and actions of all, you need to be present at the meeting to find out the antics, talents and forgetfulness of some of our members!
    • Fines can be e transferred to Lesli ($5 minimum, so you can send once you’re up to that amount)
     
    President’s Report: From the cab of his truck, camping at Nutimik Lake, newly crowned President David gave his Opening Remarks and State of the Union Address at the end of the meeting. Highlights include:
     
    • Honoured to be president – thanks for trusting him with this role
    • Looking forward to working as one team
    • The help and contribution of all members is critical – need the Rotary knowledge passed on
    • Will be looking to develop a strategic plan with the group
    • The executive will be meeting in person next Monday.
    • See everyone back on ZOOM Monday, July 26.
