    ROTARY CLUB COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
    Rotarians Grow A Record Crop

Rotarians grew a total of 954 lbs of fresh vegetables this year in the Rotary / Red Bomb Fireworks garden in Selkirk.  All of the food was donated to the Selkirk Food Bank and the Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.  A big thank you to Red Bomb Fireworks for allowing us to make such a positive contribution to our community.  Thank you to ALL the Rotarians and family that helped us from June right through until October!!

Book Sale is a Tremendous Success

Spread out over 9 days, the Annual Book Sale organized by Rotarians Sharon Moolchan and Ruth Konzelman sold over 19,000 books to our community.  Over $11,000 was raised by the club to put forward to the new Rotary Children's Wing at the Gaynor Family Library.  A whopping 40 community volunteers signed up to assist the Rotary Club.  This had to be one of the most organized book sales!  This comment was heard over and over again from many of our customers.  A big thank you to all that took part!

Nutrition on Weekends (NOW) is back for a 4th Year

Volunteers and Rotarians have come back once again for a 4th year at the Knox Presbyterian Church on Fridays to pack lunches for weekends to provide to those most in need in our schools. 153 lunches were made on the first day, to be delivered to 6 area schools.  Combating hunger in children will lead to stronger minds.  This food security initiative is led by Rotarians Jean Oliver and Sharon Moolchan and will run until June 2024.   A tremendous thank you to all that come out each week.

    Winter Clothing Drive

Our club is partnering with Lord Selkirk School Division to collect gently used or new winter clothing, skates and hockey equipment to give to various fly-in First Nations communities in Northern Manitoba.  This is the 3rd year our club has been involved with the Honoring Indigenous Program of Rotary and it is led by Rotarian Jean Oliver.  A huge thank you for organizing this!

Honorary Rotarian Gives Back -  Honorary Rotarian Jim Gaynor and his lovely wife Betty Ann announced a gift of $1 Million dollars on Friday evening, towards Inclusion Selkirk’s downtown revitalization project, a housing and education centre.

The Gaynor Family Inclusive Centre will be located on Eveline Street connected to the Wish Me social enterprise gift store.  This new building will be four stories, including street level educational learning space, café and Inclusion Selkirk offices. The other floors will have more office space and blended housing, which means both affordable and market value based rentals. Way to go Gaynor Family!
