Crawford was born to John and Eva McMillan on May 24, 1915 in Griswold, MB and was one of 10 brothers and sisters and is survived by sister, Yvonne of Brandon, MB. Crawford graduated from Normal School (Teacher's College) in 1936 and started his teaching career in Elva, MB. He and Margaret were married on June 11, 1938 and moved to Clandeboye in 1940 where Crawford took on the position of Principal at Clandeboye School. He moved his family to Selkirk in 1950 and started his insurance career. In 1953, he purchased an existing brokerage from Ruth Gordon located in the Tovell Block on Clandeboye Avenue in Selkirk and subsequently moved to the current Main Street location in 1963. Crawford was active in the insurance industry until his retirement in 1979. McMillan Insurance was rebranded to ONE Insurance Group in 2010 and continues to carry on through Crawford's entrepreneurial spirit. During their retirement years, Crawford and Margaret enjoyed travelling to Scotland and Texas, and frequently to British Columbia, spending time with family. Crawford enjoyed golf, was actively involved in the Robert Smith remedial reading program, and volunteered as a driver to take people to their medical appointments. He loved a good game of crib, and was an avid fan of hockey, curling, and baseball. Crawford and Ellma met while attending Selkirk United Church and were married on October 15, 1987. They enjoyed many happy years travelling together before health issues caused Crawford's move to Red River Place in January 2004 where he was wonderfully and respectfully cared for until his death. We gratefully appreciate and thank the staff for caring for our Crawford. Crawford's proudest moments were celebrating the accomplishments of his family. His community accomplishments involved the Kinsmen Club, Rotary Club of Selkirk, Masonic Lodge, and his service as a Councilor for the Town of Selkirk. He ran for the Federal Liberal Party in 1962 and was actively involved with the Selkirk United Church. Crawford enjoyed all who came to visit him while in the Care Home and appreciated each one, but always looked forward to the many special visits with Ellma, and regular visits with his boys, family, and great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Miranda, who affectionately called him Big Papa . The family would like to again thank the staff of Red River Place and Dr. R. Lindenschmidt who cared for Crawford. Your kindness and support over the years is so much appreciated. Crawford will be lovingly remembered not only by his family and friends, but all who knew him.
