Rotarian Barry Moolchan was a good friend and long time member of the Selkirk Rotary Club. He will be sadly missed. Our sincere regrets, thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

KEITH BARRY RAYMOND MOOLCHAN August 31, 1945 - January 27, 2011 Barry passed away suddenly on January 27 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. It is with sad hearts that we say goodbye to our dear husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was predeceased by his father Kelvin, his father-in-law Robert and his brother Kester. He will be forever remembered by his wife Sharon and son Kieran; his mother Norma (Trinidad); sisters and brothers-in-law, Dawne and Dave Nurse (Trinidad), Avion and Joe Principato (Long Island); and brothers, Ken (New Jersey) and Neil (San Diego); his mother-in-law Ellen; his sister-in-law Linda and her husband John; and brother-in-law Larry and his wife Wendy, as well as all of the nieces and nephews and extended families.

After growing up in Trinidad and Tobago Barry attended McMaster University where he received his Bachelor of Arts. His search for a job then took him to Fort Alexander where he taught for two years. From there he moved to East Selkirk and a teaching position at Ruth Hooker School in the Lord Selkirk During this time he met and married his wife Sharon of 33 years. He later taught at Selkirk Junior High, Bridges, Lord Selkirk Learning Centre and the Regional Comprehensive School. While teaching full-time he completed his Bachelor and Masters of Education at the University of Manitoba. Throughout his years in Canada he maintained extremely close ties to his home and family through frequent phone calls and visits. He was very special in that no matter who needed him he would make time for them. This quality was recognized by all who were touched by Barry whether family, friends, colleagues or employers. That caring transferred to his years of involvement in the local and provincial Manitoba Teachers' Society and Selkirk Rotary.

He and Sharon travelled a great deal early in their marriage and then later with their son Kieran. One of the highlights for Barry was the year they spent in Australia on a teacher exchange. Barry was very proud of his son Kieran and their relationship. He was also very interested in and proud of the accomplishments of his nieces, nephews and students. He gained a great deal of pleasure from bumping into past students, catching up with their news and knowing he had been a part of their lives.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 341 McLean Ave., Selkirk, Manitoba. Interment will be held at a later date at Brookdale Cemetery near Holland, Manitoba. Sharon and Kieran would like to express their gratitude to the Selkirk Ambulance Service, the staff at the General Hospital, Rob Laycock at Gilbart Funeral Home, Rev. Anthon Bouw and all of our friends and family who have supported them.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
