Meeting Highlights November 25, 2019 After the opening, our guest, Shaylene Nordal was introduced. President Sharon reported that: The Book Sale Review was included in the Spoke. It is time to identify our Executive and Board. The names must be entered into Club Runner before the end of December. District Governor Fred Wright will be attending the January 13 meeting and leading us in a discussion about the benefits of “engaging the community.”
Fred emailed the following information. My newsletter at the end of this month or beginning of December will address some of what I think is critical for all of our clubs. We need to engage our communities by finding out what our communities need and want and then doing something about what they want and need. This will engage our communities and thereby engage our members and bring in new members. We can take advantage of time together to discuss a plan for engaging the community. This is about developing a value proposition for people to belong to Rotary. No magic bullet. It will take commitment and determination, but worth it. We do not want to end up like the Rotary Club of Listowel. They folded after 73 years and there is a nice article (Obituary) in the local Listowel newspaper about all of the great things that the Rotary Club in Listowel did over 73 years before they died. I have set aside January 13 to meet with your club and talk strategy. I hope that there will be a follow up community meeting later. Please mark January 13 on your calendar and be present to discuss the future of the club. Secretary Lesli announced two requests for funding that will be looked at by the Board. There was no Treasurer’s Report.
Rotarian Jean reported on ongoing projects. The NOW (Nutrition on the Weekend) program is running smoothly with just over 50 students in 4 schools receiving the snack bags. She requested more people to help fill and deliver the bags. The Echocardiogram machine, furniture and room are in place but we do not have a definite start-up date.
Rotarian Al reminded us about the Christmas Party on December 16 at the Golf Course. Draw prizes can be brought during cocktails Tickets are $35. Please purchase your tickets from Al Curtis.
Rotarian Kathryn was unsuccessful in finding a 50/50 winner.
Rotarian Hobie was the Sergeant at Arms who collected fines from most of us when we could not answer a technology question. He will be doing quick Club Runner info sessions starting at our December 9 meeting.
The finale of the meeting was the presentation of the Vocational Award. Rotarian Elaine introduced the recipient, Shaylene Nordal. Rotarian Fraser highlighted examples of her contributions and accomplishments as the Manager of the Marine Museum of Manitoba.
