President Sharon welcomed those in attendance to our Assembly.
Attendance 35%
Rotarian Jean presented a report on the NOW (Nutrition On Weekends) project. This is now the 3rd month for this program and they are packing bags for 54 children from 4 schools. We have received 2 donations totaling $1,030.00, from Sunova Credit Union and Rotarian Doug Anderson and Spouse Marilyn.
MOTION by Rotarian Jean Oliver, seconded by Marcia, that the NOW Program continue through to the end of June, 2021. CARRIED
Jean then reported on the Adventures programs, RYLA and MUNA
Hobie was in charge of the 50/50 draw, Jean did not win with the Queen of Spades
Acting Sargent of Arms, Michele, asked for Happy dollars and there were a few happy people…………..she then fined the unhappy people and tasked them all with “thinking of something you can do for someone else” in February.
Jean reported on a request she received from the Interlake Art Board. They would like to partner with our Club to do a mural on the South side of Packers Fashion building. The Mural would be in recognition of the Selkirk Settlers, whom they stated had a huge impact on the settlement of Selkirk. Rotarian Fraser was quick to point out that the Selkirk Settlers did not in fact settle here, nor did they have any impact on the settlement. They settled in Winnipeg. So questions arose as to the significance of this particular mural. The Art Board does not have a charitable number and would therefore want to partner with us for donations to the mural. Discussion was held regarding an Admin fee and our being the Lead on this project. It was agreed that further discussion is needed, Jean will invite them to the next meeting.
President Sharon then spoke in regards to the newly formed Rotaract club, and the suggestion that they be invited to attend the PETS training, and/or District Conference. She will look into this as we are not sure who would cover their costs and if there would be sessions applicable to Interact. Hobie suggested we also invite the Rotaract club before the end of this school year to join the Selkirk Rotary Club in the summer and winter parades in Selkirk.
Secretary Lesli brought forward the letter the Club had received from the Fire Department for a donation.
MOTION from Rotarian Michele Polinuk, seconded by Elaine Elliott, that the Rotary Club of Selkirk support the Selkirk Fire Department with the purchase of a new Sparky mascot, to a maximum of $6,500.00 CARRIED
It was also mentioned that we would like our Lobster mascot to present Sparky with his new outfit after the Club is given a tour of the new Fire Hall.
MOTION from Rotarian Jean Oliver, seconded by Lee Hanson, that the Rotary Club of Selkirk donate $1,500.00 to Special Olympics Selkirk, to cover the cost of one athlete to attend Special Olympics. CARRIED
The meeting ended with a discussion of the plan to utilize the Vital Signs report, written by the Selkirk and District Community Foundation. We decided a more workable idea would be to choose one issue from the report that we have not addressed in the past. Then invite stakeholders directly involved in the issue to guide us in developing a manageable project.
