At Last Meeting (April 8, 2019)

April 8     Speaker Jim Duncan, of Discover Owls, brought a Live Owl !

We were delighted that Jim Duncan's presentation was accompanied by Rusty, a Long-eared owl!  What a surprise to see the cute little creature patiently perched upon his basket's handle while quietly looking around at us as we enjoyed our dinner before the presentation.

Jim covered many details about owls though photos, videos, and a talk that included a wide sample of owl claws for us to explore (see photo).  We learned that it is the owl's unique physiology that allows them to turn their head backwards, as well as endow them with amazing hearing and sight.  Wow, those claws are something to stay away from! It was easy to see how owls would be such effective hunters with having such powerful claws and acute vision and hearing.  Jim also surprised and entertained us with a wide sample of owl calls too!!

Thank you, Jim, for a very fun and interesting night!

Well behaved Rusty looks on as we enjoy our meal! 9 owl claw specimins
Jim provides these talks in support of owl education, research and conservation.

District Conference 2019 Registration
District Conference 2019
See "March 18th UPDATE" below for information on the  April 15  Early-Bird  registration deadline.

Hello My Fellow Rotarians

I am pleased to advise you that the District 5550 Conference web site is now live and the registration pages are ready for early registration. The link below will bring you to the site.

This is an all new site and it is being populated with new things as we go forward. Currently the venue information, registration information, and speaker bios are up and ready. We anticipate seeing new things going up as they are available on a regular basis. We will bring you updates as new sections are populated...look for a cursory schedule to be up soon.

Remember we still need your stories of inspiration as we have had only a couple come through and I know there are many more out there. With the event fast approaching those stories will be added to the website and Facebook as we get excited to be inspired at the Conference. Couple this with sharing the companionship of our fellow Rotarians and their families the spring looks to be warm in Winnipeg!

We look forward to seeing you in Winnipeg and hearing your stories of inspiration.

March 18th UPDATE

Hello my fellow Rotarians,

Finally we can smell spring in the air, enjoy more sunlight, and yes even plus temperatures are threatening to appear. All this points to one thing...District Conference is close...real close. To be exact we are 45 days away from our annual conference. We are so very excited to host you but we can't do that if you don't register. Early-Bird registration ends at the end of day April 15th. Get registered and don't miss the savings.

The Conference website is being updated weekly including pictures of the Conference committee and their roles. The schedule will be updated as well. We have full Bios up for our speakers just click on the speaker's name and you will see their bio.
  • John Blount will present "Creating Memorable Rotary Events"
  • Kevin Chief will present "Rotary and First Nations Working Together"
  • Sylvia Whitlock will present "The Edge of Tomorrow"
  • Don Evans will present "Conflict - Finding a Way Forward"
We will have an interactive breakout where you can work with your fellow Rotarians to give back..."Handbags of Hope". I am attaching more information to the email.

Don't forget to send in your inspirational stories if you haven't already.

We can't wait to be inspired by our time together. More updates in the weeks to come.

Cheers
