Fish Fry Changed

The Plan for the Fish Fry has been changed to a Fellowship Meeting at The Golf Club.
Proposed menu - Pizza, Wings & Beer

Due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases in the area, the Executive feels that at this time, we are unable to host the Fish Fry at Rhonda and Mike’s home. People with businesses are being extra cautious for not only their sake but for ours and we must respect these safety measures.

President Jean Oliver Jean

Poker Game

A new Sergeant at arms poker game started at our last meeting. Everyone who attends receives a card. To get an extra card, bring someone to the meeting with you.  The more cards you have, the better chance you have to win!!

Rotarian Rhonda Grochowski.

Rotary Club of Selkirk Meeting | July 27, 2020

Rotarian Rhonda Grochowski reminded us to be aware of social distancing.

President Jean Oliver welcomed members and guests and spoke briefly about the Guiding Principles of Rotary, the 4 Way Test and the Club Service Avenue chaired by Director Brian Surridge

Rotarian Michele Polinuk introduced the following guests at her table; Luke Thorne (David Thorne’s son), George Hacking and Kasey Hacking (our presenters) and Trish Goosen a prospective member.

After our dinner President Jean Oliver presented a request from Rotarian Al Curtis to send a letter of support to the Renewal Committee for Captain Kennedy House. This letter would be attached to the committee’s submission to the St. Andrews Council. Moved by Rotarian Fraser Stewart and seconded by Rotarian Lesli Malegus that a letter be sent by the Rotary Club of Selkirk.

Rotarian Ruth Konzelman had no secretary’s report.

Treasurer Lesli Malegus spoke briefly about the need to have some new fundraising projects which would be compatible with COVID-19 restrictions.

There were no Director’s reports or announcements.

Rotarian Dave Moore drew the 10 of Clubs in the 50/50 so did not win the $112.50.

Sergeant at Arms Rhonda Grochowski started 6 weeks of the Best Hand in Poker and reminded members that if they bring a guest to a meeting they receive an extra card. She also volunteered to hold the August 24th Non Fish Fry at her home. She will prepare pulled pork on a bun. Hand sanitizers and social distancing will be observed.

Attendance will be limited to active and honorary members and their partners.

The program topic was “What is Happening in our Community regarding Real Estate?”

Rotarian Fraser Stewart introduced George hacking who he has known since George was a member of 4-H and dragged a calf around with a rope. George has been a member of Century 21 for 15 years.

George shared information from the real estate market in Selkirk, St. Andrews and St. Clements. He indicated that back on March 24 there were 0 real estate transactions and no people were looking for houses. However the market has been largely unaffected by COVID-19 and remains positive. Overall low interest rates and a MMF introduced program to assist their members with home ownership means there is a lack of homes under $250 000 for 1st time buyers. Some of these homes garner multiple offers and sell over list price.

Selkirk has a strong market. 67 houses have been sold so far this year and the average sale is $250 000. Prices are up $10 000. Condos are about the same as last year. Community lifestyle is driving the sales. There are only about 4 homes left for sale in the Creekside Development. 200 lots (40ft) are being developed beyond Agnes on Vaughan.

St. Andrews has a more upscale market with an average price of $377.000 and the sales are on par with last year.

St. Clements has a lower numbers of sales than last year. The average price is up $12-$13 with an average sale time of 45 days. Lockport condos have had 3 sales.

Rotarian Sharon Moolchan thanked George and Casey for sharing their expertise.

Our next meeting is August 10, 2020.

The meeting adjourned at 7:25.
